VICTORIA

Settlement of Victoria began in 1834 in a town called Portland in the extreme west of Victoria.  In 1835, Port Philip Bay, the city now known as Melbourne was settled.  In the 1950s Melbourne became the great centre for immigration, particularly for those from Italy and Greece (giving Melbourne the status of the 3rd largest Greek population in the world).
